Each year, Ceres, a nonprofit advocacy organization working to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more just, and resilient world, hosts a gala to inspire bold climate leadership. For their annual gala event, they chose to spotlight rising climate activist Wawa Gatheru, a scholar, advocate, and the founder of Black Girl Environmentalist, an organization that empowers Black women, girls, and nonbinary people in the climate movement. Her mission is to ensure that those most affected by the climate crisis, especially communities of color, have a seat at the table where decisions are made.
This short video highlights Wawa’s work and calls for a more inclusive and equitable approach to sustainability.
